New Age Girl Blog

Hey There and Welcome from me, your host, the New Age GirlHere you will find my thoughts on creativity, inspiration and other soul-seeking adventures

Second blog: Look Pa - No Depth Perception. I was born with strabismus or lazy eye. In this blog, I share what it was like growing up, my various eye surgeries and ways I've learned to cope without having depth perception.

First blog: I thought I’d start by giving you a bit of background on who I am. If you like facts, there are a bunches of them on my about me page.

Obviously, I’m a seeker:

I’ve been a self-help junkie, walked the road less traveled, read a boat-load of the really great books, studied lots of the religions, laughed, cried, smashed my fists into a couple of walls, burnt candles, meditated, told myself countless affirmations and I know how to cast and read astrology charts.  I’ve sung and danced all up and down the east coast, I’ve driven across country, worked at the Bodhi Tree Bookstore, gone to ashrams, done yoga, been a vegetarian and stared at my navel.

Do I have all the answers, hell no.  And if I claimed to, you can bet I’d probably be selling something and it’d probably be expensive.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  I believe in making money, we all have to live and having money helps pay our rent and us help others.  I believe learning to have a good relationship with money is part of learning how to live and be happy in this world.  And I’m still working on that relationship.  I’m growing and learning and will hopefully continue to change and evolve until time ends.

I think we all have things to give to one another.  I’m still figuring out what mine looks like.  But along the way, I have learned some cool things that I’d like to share.  If I can help anyone who is searching find out what their true path is, or feel better while they are walking along the path they’re on - then that would be really great.  And if not, well, there some good quotes and some pretty pictures to look at.  And I’ll share some good inspirational stories and humor that I’ve stumbled along in my journeys.  I’ve noticed that often - we help people most when we simply share who we are, what we know, how we get from one day to the next and most importantly how we get through the tough times.  And when we can connect with each other, find other of like mind and support each other - well, that’s the best.

FINDING OUR PURPOSE

I’ve always been trying to figure out who I was and what my purpose is.  I believe most of us would like to know why we’re here and what we have to give to others.  The other day (ok maybe it was months ago but you get the idea), I did an exercise from some website or article . . .

  • It’s simple, write down what you think your purpose is.
  • Keep writing it down, over and over again.
  • Do it until you can’t do it anymore.
  • Repeat things, refine things
  • Keep writing down what your purpose is over and over
  • Until you can’t stand to do it anymore
  • Until you really think you might have it.

I did it for about 30 minutes - I wrote down all the shoulds and the if I was a good person I’d want to… or I would… I’m always been told I’d be good at… I like doing… and after a while you get past all the shoulds and the voices of your parents, friends, family, teachers etc, telling you who you should be . . .

No, I didn’t have an epiphany. My purpose has to do with helping people, entertaining them and hopefully inspiring people to live happier, more fulfilled lives.

In the meantime, I’ll keep adding some cool information, stories, humor and resources that have helped me.

Until Next Time, to all you New Age Girls and New Age Guys out there whether you classify yourself that way or not.
Have fun and be brilliant,
New Age Girl

Why call this the New Age Girl Blog, well (1) it kinda describes me and (2) I really liked the lyrics to the song "New Age Girl"
by Dead Eye Dick.
